The next meeting of the Gas Analysis and Sensing Group will take place on Thursday 4 December 2025 at the prestigious Wellcome Collection in London.

We are putting the finishing touches to our programme and have a wonderfully diverse collection of presentations on the topic of “Special Gases & Unusual Places”.
Our agenda includes two plenary speakers. Mark Miodownik, Professor of Materials and Society, will give a talk entitled “It’s a Gas – The rise of the invisible things that expand our world”. Members who have read his recent book of the same title will already have a flavour of his brand of scientific storytelling. Later in the day, we have a presentation and demonstration by Claire Guest from the charity Medical Detection Dogs – complete with (well-behaved) dogs. What could possibly go wrong?!
Our other talks cover gas detection for smart wound dressings (Oliver Gould), gas monitoring in submarines (Tina Woodall), exoplanet atmospheres (Anjali Piette), tritium analysis (Jessica Gabb), location of buried victims using VOCs (Paul Thomas) and the 12 VOCs of Xmas (Catherine Gardner). The packed programme will also include the GASG AGM.

This will be the first time GASG have met at the Wellcome Collection, which is conveniently situated just across the road from Euston and King’s Cross / St Pancras in London. We will have time during lunch to browse the fascinating exhibits in the famous museum and library.
The programme and registration forms will be available shortly via the links below.
We hope this will be a great start to the festive season and look forward to seeing you there!
Please note that this meeting is currently planned to be in-person only, with no online access on the day or speaker recordings available after the event. (Presentations will be accessible to members as usual, subject to publication approvals). All the more reason to ensure that you plan to attend what promises to be a fascinating and informative day!
